Twisted Dress sewn with stretch velvet

As if I didn’t already have enough dresses in my closet, I had to sew myself a new one. For my Twisted Dress here I have used up the rest of a stretch velvet and am already a little sad not to have more of it. Mom would’ve loved to get one as a shirt with this fabric too.

I’ve learned with the fabric here, however: You should stick to your own fabric specifications when testing and sewing patterns! The stretch velvet is no 4-way stretch as you should use for the twisted dress and even if it still looks quite good, so I guess I shouldn’t eat quite so much.

In addition, the dress is a little shorter in length than planned. The advantage of this: The pattern now contains two versions for the knot, once at waist level and once under the chest as in the dress here. This came about because it slides up due to the lack of length elasticity here and my sample sewing girls also found this look quite great. Since we could not decide which is better, there are now simply both.

The sample sewing of the Twisted Dress was brilliant, I think I’ve never had so many girls and that even though I could not take quite a few applicants. Well, the selection of sewn and photographed dresses shows a true love for the pattern. It is incredibly versatile and can now be sewn not only as a dress but also as a shirt or maxidress. I have hardly kept up to look at all the pretty pieces made by the girls <3

Of course there is a sale for the Twisted Dress in the first days as always. So go for the fabric, pay attention to the recommendation (!) and then the Twisted Dress is sewn in no time. The knot is super easy and quick to make 😉

A Flash of Pink

A few years ago, as a teenager, I had this one dress. Black, strapless and with a neon pink stripe in the middle. Now my newest dress is grey and by no means strapless. But I didn’t want to copy the old one 😉 But when I discovered the great ‘Speckle’ fabric at Graustufen Stoffe, I knew immediately what to make of it.

The fabric has a lot of very small neon spots in pink and green on it. Because in my stash of sports fabrics, among other things, a pretty bright pink had stored – yes, guess what had to become of it 😉 I simply omitted the sleeves and sewed the armhole narrow-edged with the coverlock.

The Saturday Night Dress was a perfect fit for that, after all it has a wide stripe under the chest. But now the side seam is slightly warped because I noticed after the fitting that the pink fabric stretches a lot more than I thought. As I already noticed while touching it that it stretches extremely, I already cut the front and back part 2cm tighter on fold (so in the circumference altogether 8cm), but that all just buffed and in the length it could be pulled like a soft bubble gum as well after sewing. So I cut it open again, cut away 4cm in length (now it’s the way it should be…) and took something away in the width as well. A lot even, another 24cm in circumference of the pink fabric had to be removed and after half an hour of wearing it felt quite chubby again. So I am a bit disappointed by the fabric quality, the next time I run to a better fabric, the middle part will probably be replaced sometime. Unfortunately I don’t know where the fabric came from anymore :-/

But you know what? I still like the whole dress and will definitely wear it a lot this summer. Despite the fact that it is so gaudy by my standards. Or maybe exactly because of that? Maybe also because I feel like a few years back and therefore young and fresh again *smile*.

For today’s photos I mobilized my daughter again, I am really proud of her how great she does it. I really like the photos. By the way, I really like my make-up too, so this time I put a lot of effort into it. Once again it has a touch of festival feeling – I’m already looking forward to summer, when you can hear it from all sides again. That’s why there’s a big Ear-Piece on it, on the other side a glittering star drawn on the temple… Sometimes it’s just fun to get creative outside of ‘just’ fabrics 😉

Cotton stretch satin

There are fabrics that many of my sewing colleagues can’t do anything with. Cotton satin is such a good example. In the shops you can almost always find it with a small amount of elastane and that’s exactly what makes the fabric so great for me. I’ve used them for a long time, as comfortable stretch trousers or for dresses. So that was one of the reasons why I designed the new Y-Dress pattern for such fabrics. Because the stretch woven fabrics were stacked on my shelf and I finally needed something where I could sew a lot of them 😉

This snake leather print here had been in my stash for quite a while and finally I had the dress for it in mind. It’s supposed to get hot, so I had to wear the narrow pencil skirt. As the 5th Y-dress I was able to get off the needle very quickly, so that I could cut it in the morning and already had the photos taken in the evening. For once indoors, I tried the new (not yet finished) photo corner.

After my last pictures to the little black dress, there came a lot of comments to my ‘much bulky’ shoes, so this time I picked out the finest stilettos that are in my shoe collection. And I almost felt my feet broken. The heels are a bit thinner than my other pencil heels. I already know why I like the fat shoes so much, one simply has the better hold in it and thanks to the plateaus there they are not so high. Well here it’s different, but they are still my one favorites and that’s exactly why they stayed when I was decluttering the rest <3

So to pose in front of a naked, white wall is honestly not really mine, I like pictures outside much better. But everything is well illuminated here. Only I hardly recognize myself, I always think it looks very ‘fake’. Now I just have to find an occasion for which I can wear the dress. My kids & test sewers said, I should try and get a man with it – they would surely run after me. I dare to doubt it strongly, especially since I never go anywhere where I would have the possibility 😛 But I may also simply dress pretty for myself, the little household makes itself finally also lighter, if one feels pretty <3
